Congratulations Toli!

That was a long, patient wait on your part. I hope the DIRECTV HR21 performs as nice as it looks. Did it come with the Fisher Price looking remote?   Not that it is a problem for you with your "stereo" Harmony remotes.

I wish you many years of trouble free service from your new addition.

fanboyz,

The HR21 is the newest HD DVR from DIRECTV. It is rumored to have faster chips, but this remains to be seen. The downside to this new HD DVR is the loss of the built-in ATSC tuner, so one can no longer connect an off-air antenna. The important difference for me is the black color. Now my entire system will be black.

jttar,

"Fisher-Price looking remote", now that's funny! I hate that stupid looking remote. But as you said I have my Harmony remotes, so the HR21's remote will probably never leave it's box!

Toli,

Excellent! So how do you like it so far. How is it's menu's and more importantly, how is the picture quality?

jttar,

I really like it so far, the PVR feature is great. The menu system isn't much different than my H20, although the guide does look nicer and navigation is much quicker. The picture quality seems about the same as the H20. The H21, being black in color, looks excellent in my system!

Toli,

Thanks for the reply. Having 100 hours of recording time is a very cool feature. For people like myself it kind of sucks that there is no OTA tuner but it does ensure that ones local HD channels are purchased through DirecTV. A financially smart move on their part.

I am glad to hear that you finally have your new HR21 installed and that you are happy with it. May it give you and your family many hours of enjoyment.

jttar,

I agree, this is definately a cool feature, but I actually get up to 50 hours of HD or 200 hours of SD recording time.

I have considered the possibility of adding an OTA antenna in the future and have several ideas, I am presently considering my options.
