Picked this gem up a couple months back & just got around to trying it out recently. The player was sourced from CBC Radio Canada studio's. Very well built machine throughout, lots of copper heatsinks and elna caps were used everywhere! The interior layout and chassis build reminds of my old X33ES that i modded a few years back. This will be a great candidate for an complete copper shielding interior upgrade. There's also a stock IEC plug/connector used in the 2700 that will be getting beefed up to 14 gauge very shortly.
I put it through the paces yesterday and there was lots of glitches with the old laser. It continued to skip no matter of cd or cd selection and seemed very sensitive to any vibration around the player, which seems odd for a 25-30Ib player. It also had quite a time cueing up & reading the info from the cd's. Instead of fooling with the old laser unit which by now has been in use for some 24 years, i decided to just go ahead & install a new Sony KSS-240a laser unit. (Notice how the lens on the old laser has a blue tint to it & the new laser has a crystal clear lens). I lubricated the new laser, slide rail and cueing wheels and its been smooth sailing ever since! The player has been on all day and now works flawlessly. Reads cd's quick no matter what selection is made on the cd, no skipping and the vibration issue of the old laser is a thing of the past!!!
