Would there be any potential benefits to using a coaxial cable if it is properly connected in parallel to the optical output?

None, unless the connected component only has coxial inputs.

+1 doesn't look factory to me, doesn't match the other RCA sockets, so my guess is that its an add on coaxial spdif.

Coax and optical might be handy to send the data to two different devices, but nothing comes to mind beneficial from one optical and one coax of the same data as a input to a single device. First thought is that the two signals are not likely to be in phase due to conversion and buffering.
