Thanks for the vote of confidence David!   Yes, I finally figured it out.  I hope the sound of the teeth chattering slightly is normal when it opens and closes.   I'll be sure you let everyone know my findings of this changer once my Audio Alchemy gear arrives to virtually eliminate any jitter.

Hmm, now that I have a pre-amp capable of receiving a balanced input, I am wondering if there would be any benefits to finding a SACD/CD player with balanced outputs to try.   I can't imagine it getting better than the Sony S9000ES though.   Keep this "secret" amongst ourselves.  I would hate for the word get out and the price of these players to skyrocket!

I do keep my eyes open for another S9000ES at a reasonable price to have as a reserve for when the laser on the one I now have dies

That is the only issue I've noticed is that the laser's fail often, and I have heard of complaints when using certain CD-R's. I use TDK CD-R's copied at 4x and never had an issue.

David_ you make an excellent oint about the 2ch outs on some SACD players. Ironically my XA9000ES and it's predecessor the XA777ES are just the opposite. It's the 2ch outs that have the better DACs than the MCH fronts. Sony used their TRI-DAC setup on these two players and only the 2ch outs had them. Sony stated in the whitepaper on the 9kES that it would have them on all channels but in the end didn't implement that setup. Among the advancements of the 9kES over the 777ES, like iLink and bass management, was that unlike the 777 you didn't need to hook up the front MCH outs for analog MCH playback. You could use the 2ch outs. Thus eliminating one set of cables and taking advantage of the better sounding DACs on the front channels. I've often wondered why they even bothered having the front MCH outs on the 9kES._mykl

My DVP-S9000ES will only play SACD and CD, no CD-R's; but, that's as expected. Is there a way around that?

Mark_Thanks for the info. I think that the 5400 and the SCD-1 are the only SACD players to have XLRs. But I didn't know about non-SACD units._mykl

My amp and pre-amp both have balanced inputs and I would like to at least try a CD player with a balanced output.

I have been told that it really won't matter too much unless there is a lot of interference possibilities and a long cable run.

I've heard and read the same thing. Yet then I know others who swear balanced is better no matter what the length and will only go that route. Until now I've never had the ability to use XLRs in my system to see but have been curious about it for years. I'd like to know for sure but in a way it'd be cool if there's no improvement. No need for new cables._mykl

That's another reason I wouldn't be into a S9000ES for a reference player. I have alot of CD-Rs I made myself with my RCD-W2000ES. I don't know of any way around it._mykl
