I went to use my Sony CDP X707ES CD player the other day and the CD disc tray would not operate.  Nothing happens when the button is pressed to open the tray.  The unit remains silent.

The unit has played flawlessly for the last 15 years.  I had my local authorized Sony Distributor/Service Provider check it out.  They could not figure out the problem and are offering their best guess as a function of the system control main micro IC went bad.

PART # FOR IC IS 875916774  TYPE (MSC62408-101GS-V1K)

According to Sony, this part is no longer available.  They also checked on some other parts that are also not available.  They could send it to Sony Service in Laredo, Texas, but do not want to waste my money on shipping charges if the unit cannot be repaired.  I contacted Sony Service, but they have not repaired any of these CD players for this particular problem.

Could anyone offer me their ideas?  Other than this specific problem, everything else on the unit operates properly.  Should I reside myself to the fact that I need to buy a replacement CD player?  Thank you.

My guess is its not the contoller ic that went bad but proably the tray switch. Also passive elements like caps somewhere in the electric path could be gone eol.  I once had a tape
deck (770ES) which no longer responded to the drivecontrolles. And brought into local service
i was told also that the controller-IC was bad and repairing was not possible. But found out later that the microswitches which identifieing the tape (crom,metal,etc..) were oxydated and
because of no signal to the controller-ic the drivecontrolles were inoperabel. I just had to
clean the contacts of the switches and all was fine again.
I guess strongly that something like that also happend to your player.
The X707ES is a very fine piece of japanese engeneering and finding a qualitywise equivalent player will be a difficult and expensive task im sure. You need a specialist in repairing vintage
audio components like http://www.eliteaudiorepair.com/index.php. />Good luck.

Yes, most likely the tray belt.  The rubber ages, becomes dry and loosens.  I need to do the belt on my 707 and I'm going to give it a shot myself.

Hello Members,

I'm new here, and looking for some information on a cdp-x707es cd player.

I live in the Netherlands, so my english is not perfect.

I am looking for some tips to replace the tray belt on my cd player, witch part(s) to remove, the fastest and shortest way to do this.

I'm looking foward for some tips, i've got the service manual for the player, but not so clear to understand it all.

Thanks in advance,

Kind regards,

Marco

Edit : belt is replaced, hell of a job but done.
