While video gear with HDMI inputs is being released at a torrid pace, the opposite is true for A/V receivers. But on November 21, Sony will launch its first HDMI-switching amplifier, the 9.1 channel Sony TA-DA7000ES (US$2100), a much more palatable version of its top-of-the-line STR-DA9000ES, both size and price-wise.
Sony’s TA-DA7000ES has one HDMI, component input and two outputs
Likely to be repackaged as the STR-DA7000ES receiver for North American and European markets, the TA-DA7000ES features seven channels rated at 120 watts, with a THD of 0.15%, below that of the STR-DA5000ES and STR-DA9000ES models. Together with the Samsung AV-R3000, which is due in the U.S. in February 2005, let’s hope this opens the HDMI-switching floodgates.
