They look similar from the outside, but the 7000 looks a lot more crowded inside! Maybe they consolidated more of the components in the S7700? No copper on the S7000? I Liked my 7700 and should have kept it, but I have a bad disease called Sellitities Panicis...

I've got a line on a 'S7700 that seems to be in good condition that I should be able to get next week. I'll finally get to do a head-to-head comparison with a 'S7000 and the 'S7700.

I bought the 7700 when it came out ($999 - Ouch!).  Why 7700 over 7000?  The DVP-S7000 could not read DTS encoded DVDs.  I believe that the DVP-S7700 was Sony's first DTS enabled unit.
