If you wish, you may send those manuals via yousendit.com.  You upload a file to them and they send a link to the e-mail address that you specify.  This is a very helpful service!

Quit question: Is it possible to upgrade the firmware in a july/2003 985V? I'm getting the message "no audio data"
Thanks.

Got 2 up and running now.. The 3rd one is scheduled for this next week. Has anyone had any problems powering up the 985 after serial mod via serial? I am having difficulty powering up but can do everything else even power off via serial. I can't understand why it won't power up via serial only manually.

Do you have the full procedure and parts list for doing this? I have a MArch 04 985V and am looking for Serial capability. Can you just purchase a CX777ES RS232C board and upgrade the firmware or do you have to do a bunch of other mods?

Hello Surgeon,

I am ready to upgrade the firmware on my 985, and would like to plan for the next step.

Could you please point me in the direction of the next step with adding the max232 chip etc.?

Thanks!!

Hello, I have a few other questions on this topic.

I have successfully updated the firmware on one old 985, and thanks to Surgeon's memory fix, I now have audio/video, along with RS232 control.

Prior to the memory fix, I did not have any audio, and could not get to some of the menu functions via the remote control.

Question 1:

I am unable to see the image that Surgeon referenced, regarding the resistor change.
Is this truly necessary?  I do have RS232 control of the 985, while I do have Rom Mismatch in the service menu.  Should I care about this?

Question 2:

I swapped a board from a 777 to a 985.

While I did have RS232 control of the changer, it was acting really weird.  What I mean by this is upon power up, the changer will spin the tray around and look to see what discs are installed.

The error I was experiencing was almost like a play button was stuck.  It would try to play disc 1, then disc 2, etc.  It would keep trying every slot, even though there was no discs in the tray.

I ended up putting the 985 board back in the unit, and it resolved the issue.

The only challenge to this is this 985 board is with the ROM, and not the eprom that is able to be upgraded.

Question 3:
I did purchase the eprom, and am ready to dive in swapping it out.  Is there code on this chip, or do I need to program it prior to soldering into the circuit?

I am concerned that if I do swap it out, (and should my results be successful), I will be back to the "load every disc" even though no discs have been installed into the tray.

Thank you for any input you may provide!
