I would like to do the following upgrades to my 2 Vaio laptops:

1. LAPTOP 1
    VAIO model VGN-T140P

2.  LAPTOP 2
    VAIO model PCG-R505TL

a) replace HDD
b) increase RAM to the max allowed

QUESTIONS:
1. May I use the HDD from Laptop 1 in Laptop 2?

#1 came with a TOSHIBA MK4004GAH 40GB (Ultra ATA)
#2 came with a HITACHI DK23BA 15GB(IDE)

2. What parts do I need to buy, & where.

Your VGNT series must use the same type of HDD, which is the same that is used in ipods and such. It's a 1.8" drive. Kinda hard to find, but not impossible. A tad expensive too.

Your PCGR505 uses a standard 2.5" HDD, which is inexpensive and easy to find. You can use any capacity of drive.

Check with a local computer parts store and they can probably assist. Getting inside the PCGR505 may be a tad tricky, if I remember correctly.
