dcr-hc40 video-in to tape?

Can anyone tell me if it's possible - on a dcr-hc40 - to record from video-in onto tape instead of onto the memory stick duo?

bit early to say as this is my first camcorder and i've only had it a week

filming in low light gives quite poor results but then the advertised specs do say it really needs 7 lux to perform. and i think it's well known that the accompanying software is really, really awful

but the camera seems very well made and has heaps of functionality, and so far i am very happy with my choice
