While you do not need to align it, you do need to clean the lenses once a year. If you are not willing to open it up, then pay for a service call.

Yes, you could do some damage, especially in the drive circuits to the guns if you overdrive them through the menu. Safest thing is to use it to run the convergence menus.

If you have a DVD player, you should go get the Avia setup DVD. You can properly adjust your set with it.

There are 2 things missing

There are 2 things missing from the 885 that my 845 had, a Bass Boost, and the S-link controls. I didn't realize it when I picked it up, since it was the last one CC had, and it was in the warehouse, no floor models. Hopefully the DPL II makes up for it.

Get the DVD and adjust your TV now, since it probably has the contrast set up to flame mode.

It does get some getting used to the new settings though.

You're not doing anything wrong,

You're not doing anything wrong, but, you are adjusting the set with 2 different input types. DVD versus DirectTV.

Also, 5% is pretty standard for overscan, try to get it to only around 2% if possible. The smaller the percent, the more picture you'll get.
