I also have a S70

I also have a S70 that works so far. The only thing I can think of trying is remove the battery for a week or so until the internal battery (recharges through the main battery) gets drained out and resets all internal data.
Maybe won't work, but perhaps worth the try...

There's a lot of people

There's a lot of people working with the MVC-1000 at mavican.nu and some were able to get a bad disk back working.
In the worst case, they know of places where they can restore your pics at a price.
Ask your question there also.
