Sony PS 2: Good News. Sony to Still Supporting the PlayStation 2
Posted by claudio on Sunday, December 20, 2009 @ 15:49:40 EST (1950 reads)
Sony Playstation 2 It's good to know that Sony still cares about the PlayStation 2, or I guess at least that they know they can still make money off of it. SCEA’s head of PlayStation marketing John Koller told GamePro in a recent interview "We have a very firm stance – we're going to continue to support the PS2 wholeheartedly." With a lot of multi-platform titles still getting releases on the PS2 and also exclusives like Persona 4 still making money for the console it's great that they will continue to support the system in 2010. Being a fan of the Persona series I was happy to see a release of part 4 here last year. So hopefully we will continue to see more great titles in the next year.

"The PS2 obviously had a price drop this year, which gets forgotten because of the PS3 noise, but it's still selling exceedingly well. It's a new demographic, a consumer that's maybe a 'lost gamer' or a consumer that's new to gaming.

Sony PS 2: PLAYSTATION®2 GETS STUNNING NEW LOOK Smaller, Slimmer and Network-Ready PlayStation 2 Hits Market Worldwide in November
Posted by claudio on Sunday, October 10, 2004 @ 15:09:11 EDT (10104 reads)
Sony Playstation 2 Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) announced today its plans for the global release of a new, redesigned PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system (SCPH-70000 CB) in time for the year-end peak-selling season. The new model will be in stores on November 3 in Japan, and by November 1 in Europe and North America.

While inheriting the basic functions and design philosophy of the current PlayStation 2 (SCPH-50000), the internal design architecture of the new model has been completely overhauled, resulting in a slimmer and more lightweight form. Internal volume has been reduced by 75 percent, overall weight has been halved, and thickness trimmed down to 2.8 cm (thickness of current model is 7.8cm). Its size is almost as small as a hardcover book, making it easier to carry around and enjoy games and DVD videos anytime, anywhere.

Sony PS 2: Sony Cuts Price of PlayStation 2
Posted by claudio on Tuesday, May 14, 2002 @ 15:59:43 EDT (7436 reads)
Sony Playstation 2 Underlining its faith in the video-game business as an engine for growth, Sony Corp. slashed the price of the PlayStation 2 console in the United States Tuesday to $199, underpricing its biggest rival, Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox, by $100.

The price cut was part of a business plan outlined Tuesday by the Tokyo electronics and entertainment giant. Sony's PlayStation 2, which has now sold more than 30 million worldwide, had been selling in the United States for $299, the same as the Xbox.

Under a strategy for the fiscal year that began last month, Sony hopes to turn around its sluggish electronics sector by connecting more products with its game and entertainment businesses as people increasingly use gadgets as network-linking tools.

Note: Microsoft XBOX has reduced their price to $199 however Gamecube is staying at the same price
