Sony Phone: Sony Ericsson to introduce Android 3.0 gaming platform and PSP Go-like smartphone
Posted by claudio on Sunday, August 15, 2010 @ 19:35:23 EDT (1770 reads)
Sony Ericsson There's no question that gaming on the Android platform has heretofore been relatively underwhelming, but that looks like it's all about to change. It seems that Sony Ericsson -- a company that has yet to even introduce an Android 2.0 device -- is at work on a project to redefine gaming on Google's mobile platform. We now know (via a trusted source) that the company is actively and heavily developing a brand new gaming platform, ecosystem, and device (possibly alongside Google) which are already in the late stages of planning. And we've got the goods on it.

Sony Phone: Sony Ericsson delivering Android 2.1 to Xperia X10 in Q4
Posted by claudio on Thursday, May 06, 2010 @ 14:26:40 EDT (2397 reads)
Sony Ericsson Sony Ericsson's Product Launch blog is reporting Thursday that the entire Xperia X10 lineup of phones will see Android 2.1 updates. The problem, however, is that this upgrade won't arrive until the fourth quarter of this year.

Aside from strictly updating the handsets to Android 2.1, this UXP (UX platform) update will enhance the Xperia X10's Timescape and Mediascape applications, as well as add wireless connectivity via Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA).

A minor update is scheduled for the next few weeks, although it isn't mentioned what will be addressed. As of right now we know it's designed to enhance the usability and performance of the Xperia X10.

Sony Phone: Looks like it's AT&T for Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10
Posted by claudio on Tuesday, April 20, 2010 @ 14:59:42 EDT (2125 reads)
Sony Ericsson We've just gotten word from a trusted source that AT&T is currently signed up to get Sony Ericsson's Xperia X10 in fiscal week 30 of 2010, which represents the tail end of July and the beginning of August. Naturally, those plans can change -- AT&T has been known to drop Sony Ericssons from the lineup at the last minute, after all, and there's no way they could have that week 30 time frame locked in with certainty this far in advance -- but it seems at least plausible considering the fact that an 850 / 1900MHz 3G version of the device exists (we've tested it) and that AT&T's significantly ramping up its support for Android this year.

Sony Ericsson Sony Ericsson has announced that it would release an important update for its Android-based Xperia X10 in September this year to provide much-needed boost to the smartphone.

The update will address two big gripes viz. Android 1.6 and lack of multitouch. The upcoming update will replace the Android 1.6 platform with Android 2.1 and add multitouch to the handset.

The update will allow Xperia X10 to compete with the likes of Nexus One, HTC Incredible and Samsungs Galaxy S.

Sony Phone: Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2 Delayed
Posted by claudio on Tuesday, December 15, 2009 @ 08:01:00 EST (1806 reads)
Sony Ericsson If youre wondering why Sony Ericssons XPERIA X2 isnt in stores during this festive season, its because it has (unfortunately) been delayed. Rumor has been going around that the phone would be delayed until January, and now it seems like that has become a reality. Apparently Sony Ericsson is having some trouble integrating it with some of the network specific apps, and theyre currently busy working on a fix for it. Well, to be honest, if its going to be delayed until January, its not that bad, though missing the Christmas shopping period would be a waste for Sony Ericssons sales figures.

Sony Phone: Sony Ericsson Latest Phone Kurara is Reviewed/Previewed
Posted by claudio on Tuesday, November 24, 2009 @ 19:11:28 EST (1973 reads)
Sony Ericsson A few days ago, we had reported that Mobile-Review's Eldar got hold of Sony Ericsson's upcoming Kurara and that it is likely to sport HD Video recording (@720P of course).

Almost a week later, as it turns out, Eldar has posted a preview of the handset (in Russian) and hasn't actually said very good things about the phone.

Before we start on what's wrong with the Kurara's arrival now, let's see what the phone actually has in store for us. The Kurara is the second S60 based phone from Sony Ericsson and will be similar to the Satio - which has already been launched. The Satio trumps the Kurara in terms of the camera megapixel count and features - thanks to its 12.1 megapixel sensor. The Kurara, on the other hand, boasts of HD Video recording and the immensely powerful ARM Cortex A8 Processor with 256MB of RAM that makes it a blazing performer. The phone also comes with a dedicated graphics chip.
